Police in Nyagatare District are holding two men for allegedly beating to death a man identified as Protogene Nibishaka.The body of the 28-year old victim was recovered in a bush in Ntoma Cell, Wednesday morning. The suspects are residents of Matimba Sector, Nyagatare District, and are currently detained at Nyagatare Police station as investigations continue. The cause of the tragic incident is suspected to be an argument the suspects had with the deceased in a bar. According to Police, the suspects ambushed the deceased on his way home and beat him to death with clubs.The Eastern Region Police Spokesperson, Supt. Benoit Nsengiyumva, condemned the criminal act calling it "inhumane.”"People should desist from habits that lure them into such acts,” he said.Most of the criminal acts recorded in the country, according to police, are caused by illicit drugs and alcohol. Assault or battery, which results into death attracts ten to 15 years imprisonment under article 151 of the penal code. However, if an offender has committed such acts of violence with premeditation or ambush, they shall be liable to life imprisonment.
