RWAMAGANA — The Governor of the Eastern Province Dr. Ephraim Kabaija on Tuesday began a tour of districts in the eastern region with a call to improve sanitation standards.

During his first day, the governor conducted an inspection of restaurants, shops, bars and Mukarange market, during which he ordered the closure of two restaurants in Kayonza town due to poor sanitation.

He also ordered for the closure of Kayonza Taxi Park citing lack of required standards.

Earlier on the Governor presided over the burning of toxic drugs in Kabarondo Sector. At the market, the governor addressed residents warning tax collectors against exploitation of the common man.

He also abolished charges for improvement of sanitation and urged traders to always ensure cleanliness, after work, in their areas of operation. 

On Wednesday, June 4, Governor Kabaija continued his visit to Rwamagana district during which he inspected several developmental activities in the district.

They included Agahozo shalom village which is under construction in Rubona sector and Muhazi Resort Beach, also under construction on Lake Muhazi in Muhazi Sector.

Addressing district employees, and local leaders, the governor urged team work and combined effort to develop the district.

"Most of your residents are entangled in ignorance. It is your task as leaders to get them out of this ignorance. You therefore need to cooperate to get them out of ignorance and foster development in your areas,” Kabaija told an audience at Ecole des Science Infirimeire de (ESI) Rwamagana.

Later in the day, Governor Kabaija stopped vendors from conducting business on the streets and urged them to get stalls in Rwamagana market.
