The second annual Cultural Week kicked off on Monday, November 19, at Petit Stade in Remera-Kigali. The event was officially launched by the Minister of Sports and Culture Protais Mitali in Musanze District in the Northern Province. It ends on November 23 with several activities lined up.Held under the theme Umuco, isoko y’iterambere, (culture, a source of development), the event is open daily from 2pm-7pm. During the opening ceremony, guests were treated to folk dance performances. Rwandans have long been known for their vibrant traditional dances. Music and dance holds a significant place in their lives and reflects the history and contemporary style of the Rwandan society.The event, which offers Rwandans an opportunity to appreciate their culture and interact with other members within a community, is organised by the Ministry of Sports and Culture (MINISPOC).It features three themed art exhibitions and three professional performances, and aims at promoting cultural activities throughout the country. The exhibitions feature contemporary paintings, photographs and sculptures. At the outset, beauty, inspiration and knowledge stand out as manifest attributes.The rich collection of art works created by various talented local artists, co-operatives and organisations operating under MINISPOC."I am really excited because we have a rich culture that needs to be passed on to the younger generation, and through events like these; this can be achieved,” said Aimable Nsabayesu, Director of Oakdale Kigali Music School.
