The regional basketball championship which was set for this month in Kampala, Uganda has been put on hold again with reasons for the rescheduling yet to be known. The zonal junior championship was set for June 2-15.

The regional basketball championship which was set for this month in Kampala, Uganda has been put on hold again with reasons for the rescheduling yet to be known. The zonal junior championship was set for June 2-15.

The tournament has now been shifted to August 11-15 with the venue unmoved according to the Rwanda Basketball federation Secretary General Jean-Lucie Mugabo who is in charge of the tournament on the national level.

The Zonal tournament was scheduled to take place in April but was shifted to June by the Ugandan basketball federation.

"The event has been yet again postponed for unknown reasons,” said Jean-Lucie Mugabo, Secretary General of Rwanda Basketball federation, Ferwaba.

Initially, the Kampala tournament was set to take place in April but was shifted also to reasons unknown and fixed this month.

Mugabo further added that the national juniors’ basketball team will regroup a month before the tournament starts in August.

The 16-man junior basketball team was named from the 20 provisional players who underwent a five month intensive training which started in November last year and climaxed in March. 

"They are in their schools and will start training later in preparation for the August event.” Meanwhile, the national volleyball team is expected to honor the Kampala regional event.

Rwanda Volleyball Federation Executive Secretary Gertrude Kubwimana confirmed yesterday that players who compose the nationa team are in their respective schools and clubs and will head to the camp a month before the tournament starts.
