Rwanda’s leading bank by market share, Bank of Kigali (BK), was nominated as the best Financial Reporting Company in the country during this year’s Financial Reporting (FiRe) Award held in Nairobi, Kenya.
Rwanda’s leading bank by market share, Bank of Kigali (BK), was nominated as the best Financial Reporting Company in the country during this year’s Financial Reporting (FiRe) Award held in Nairobi, Kenya.The award is promoted jointly by the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), and the Capital Markets Authority (CMA).This year’s award was organised under the theme "Promoting Corporate Excellence in East Africa.”"I would like to congratulate our team on their hard work and commitment. The Bank and the country have made considerable efforts to align our accounting and auditing practices with the International generally accepted Accounting Principles. Having adopted IFRS in 2009, we are very pleased to be honoured with this prestigious award,” said BK’s Chief Executive Officer, James Gatera. The Award attracted 93 entries, the highest number since inception. Kenyan institutions constituted 87 per cent of the total number of entries, Uganda and Tanzania constituted 3 per cent each while Rwanda Constituted 7 per cent. The banking sector had 26 entries.The FiRe award seeks to recognise excellence in financial reporting amongst institutions in the East African Region. It seeks to promote and institutionalise transparency, integrity, and accountability in the corporate reporting process.
