MODELING is a career which can easily catapult one to prosperity and fame if she or he manages to get the appropriate modeling skills.Good looks and a great figure are of course a model’s must-have but passion is the ingredient to drive the aspiring model into this competitive industry.In other words, for a model to get signed to an appropriate modeling house, she or he must have professional modeling skills. As preparations for the first edition of Kigali Fashion Week (KFW) take shape, organisers have invited China-based Rwandan model Sheila Mutavu to come and offer such guidance and advice to the 28 models selected to participate in the glamorous show.Mutavu, a professional model working in Beijing, is using her valuable experience to guide the models and share with them top modeling secrets so that they can achieve their modeling dreams. Kigali Fashion Week kicks off on December 5, and the celebration brings together fashion designers from  different parts of the world. Countries expected to attend are host Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Denmark, France and South Africa.Preparations for the event started last week, with seven local designers selected to showcase their latest collections during the event.Training sessions are conducted at Chinese Restaurant Bamboo 2000 in Kigali."I am basically focusing on giving our models tips on how best they can present themselves but of course with the element of cat-walking,” said Mutavu.Mutavu, however, could not specify how long the trainings would take, but said the selected models have the talent and will simplify her work.John Bunyeshuli, Chief Executive Officer of Kigali Fashion Week, told The New Times that he is sure the training will prepare the models to put up the best show."It is the first time that we are hosting an international fashion show. We need to work hard to make sure we can not only match, but beat international designers,” he said.  Local designers believe that the show will benefit them and it is an opportunity for them to learn and share experience with their counterparts from across the world. Proceeds from the Kigali Fashion Week will be used to construct the first ever fashion school in the country.
