Three people were injured in a minor bus accident in Rusizi town, on Saturday, June 17.
The Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) tweeted photos of the bus after it veered off the road and plunged into a valley in the morning.
The spokesperson for the Traffic and Road Safety Department of the Rwanda National Police (RNP), SSP René Irere, told The New Times that the accident happened at around 10:30 am at Kamembe bus park in Rusizi district.
Irere said the bus driver, Emmanuel Niyonsenga, had parked the vehicle in a steep area. It slipped and ran into the road, knocking and injuring a motorist by the name of Damas Byiringiro, before it plunged into a valley. Two people who were on board also suffered injuries.
According to reports by Rusizi FM, a community radio in the region, the vehicle had been parked near a cliff as the driver waited for more commuters to come in when, all of a sudden, it veered off the road.
All the three injured people, Irere said, were taken to Gihundwe Hospital for treatment.
No fatalities have been reported.
