This year’s annual International memorial volleyball tournament to remember the lives players, coaches and fans who perished during the 1994 Tutsi Genocide is scheduled for this weekend.
The event which is in its11th edition will attract male and female teams from neighboring countries including Kenya, Burundi, DR Congo, Tanzania and Uganda.
Already the Uganda Volleyball Federation has confirmed to send four teams, each two in the male and female category.
Kenya is sending one male team; three are expected from Burundi while the DRC and Tanzania are awaited to confirm their participation before the event.
"It’s an annual event and we are going to give prizes,” said Gertrude Kubwimana, FRVB Executive Secretary adding that registration is free for all interested local teams.
The event is sponsored by Caisse Sociale Rwanda, CSR, and the National Commission for fighting Genocide in corroboration with the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Rwanda Volleyball Federation, FRVB.
Local teams expected to participant include defending champions APR, Rwanda National University (UNR), KVC, and KIST among others.
Meanwhile, FRVB has hailed APR volleyball club for their performance in the recently concluded Zone V championship where it emerged first runner up to the winners KSB.
