RWAMAGANA-The Minister of Internal Security, Musa Fazil Harerimana has challenged regional police officers to play their role in maintaining security in the region.   Harerimana was officiating at the closure of a two week peace United Nations Police training at Gishari Police Training School in Rwamagana district. The course was attended by over 60 officers from Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan, Ethiopia, Comoros, Kenya and Seychelles.Harerimana said the course was vital for a police force.He requested the officers to pass on the knowledge they acquired to their colleagues at home.  He added that the course would make the officers important players’ in future peacekeeping missions."We need highly trained force to deal with challenges of insecurity” he said."The variety of skills will help police in international missions…police’s role in sustaining peace cannot be overemphasised. Training is the cornerstone of readiness, so the course is timely.”Superintendent George Ouko, the team leader of the trainers noted that the course was successfully completed.He thanked Rwanda for supporting the course, adding that UN should allow more courses to be conducted in Rwanda."Everything went well and as a team leader, I was left with no bother…theory and field exercise alike…we are equipped now, as a police force pursuing international missions. We have the true concept of peace operation at our finger tips,” he said."This is an extremely beautiful country with beautiful people…I still don’t believe what I have been seeing since I arrived in Rwanda. I would  do whatever it takes to be a Rwandan,” said Captain Ammar Algailari Ahmed from Khartoum.Peacekeeping in Africa has grown dramatically over the last five years, with the continent hosting more peacekeepers than any other region.
