One of the beautiful styles to bring back this season is embellished collars. Embellished collars add glamour and grace to any outfit. They even add a dose of elite sophistication: necessary for any upscale event. Usually the embellishment is done with gemstones, crystals, or lace, but there is also a significant use of embroidery and pattern. It is common for both tops and dresses, so you can mix up this style in many ways. This season, Italian designer Marni created a bronze neckline with enlarged centered stones on a navy half sleeve sheath dress. Jason Wu, most prominently known as one of the favorite designers of American first lady Michelle Obama, designed a long sleeve velvet button up with a gold tip. Ever eclectic designer Rodarte executed a black lace embellished neckline atop a geometrically themed multi tan dress. And Oscar de la Renta, a fashion genius, created a gold embellished collar with matching gold buttons on a crisp white blouse, and paired with silk shantung embroidered trousers. This trend has already been seen all around Hollywood. American actress Elizabeth Banks wore an embellished collared magenta solid dress recently, while actress Holland Roden wore an all lace short sleeve top with a crystalized collar, pairing the top with a vibrant yellow mini-skirt. Socialite Olivia Palermo wore a black chiffon blouse with a geometric embellishment around the neckline. Stylista Natalie Portman wore a gold embellished color with matching gold cuffs on a black shift dress. While Kirsten Cavallari took the look more casual: having it introduced in a full-embroidered dress with gold tip collars. Embellished collars can we worn in a multitude of ways: giving convenience to many different styles and venues. Embellished blouses, such as the Oscar de la Renta blouse, are great for work. If the embellishment is with lace, it will look beautiful paired with a pencil skirt. If the embellishment is with gemstones or metalics, try pairing with tailored black capris and simple pumps. Silk shirts with embellishment are great for transition from day to night. In the day, wear with casual trousers and flats, at night dress up with bangles and throw on a pair of heels. As far as accessorizing, don’t go too overboard. Make sure to let the embellishment shine. Wear simple earrings, usually studs, and stay away from necklaces. However feel free to go big on the clutch – even matching the type of embellishment around the neckline. That’s the fashion scoop for this week. Got a thought? Trend? Style you hate? Send it my way.
