Wearing your warm clothes, scarves, boots and jackets isn’t enough to keep you healthy throughout the rainy season we are experiencing lately. Like YOU might have noticed, lately it rains almost every day. It’s very important to wear warm clothing to protect oneself from the coldness. However there’s still a lot more one should do to keep in good health during the chilly weather. The first and very basic one is to always move with a small umbrella that fits into your handbag. Sometimes, the weather forecast isn’t really predictable and so you can’t know what exact time the rain is expected to fall. An umbrella is one of those ‘must haves’ especially during the rainy season. The rain won’t only mess up your hair and clothes but you can easily catch a cold or even a fever. Cold weather can also bring with it sore throats, allergies to those who react to cold weather, pneumonia and the common cold.Gerald Ruzindana, a Nutritionist with Health Inspirations, Kimironko advises that there are also foods and beverages that are favorable for cold weather. These include soups, stews, hot tea, coffee and any other warm food. Eating warm food and having warm tea will help you keep warm and feel better during the rainy season.Ruzindana says that for blood to circulate very well, one has to maintain it by taking normal temperature water, which is lukewarm. He adds that it’s good to take water even during cold weather because too much of hot drinks may interfere with warm blood flow to the body’s vital organs.According to Ruzindana, when one suffers allergies during cold weather, going to the sauna is very helpful and can help deal with the allergies although medical consultation comes in handy if symptoms persist. He advises that people should also exercise during cold weather so the body can generate heat and warmth.
