KIGALI - MTN Rwanda has launched the second edition of “21 Days of Y’ello Care,” charity drive where MTN staff generously gives back to their communities. The “21 Days of Y’ello Care”, that has become an annual event for MTN in all its 21 operations spread across Africa and Middle East, will see its staff donating to the less privileged people and participating in other community projects.
KIGALI - MTN Rwanda has launched the second edition of "21 Days of Y’ello Care,” charity drive where MTN staff generously gives back to their communities. The "21 Days of Y’ello Care”, that has become an annual event for MTN in all its 21 operations spread across Africa and Middle East, will see its staff donating to the less privileged people and participating in other community projects.
This act, which is poised to be outside the limit of other MTN corporate social responsibility (CRS) initiatives, will last for 21 days.
"As successful members of the community, we have a responsibility to help those that are less fortunate hence the desirable need to contribute to common good,” MTN CEO Themba Khumalo said.
Among the projects selected this time around, include support of orphans across the country, HIV/AIDS awareness campaign and knowledge transfer to higher institutions of learning, through public lectures by MTN staff qualified in different disciplines to students.
During last year’s 21 days of y’ello care, MTN Staff built a class room bloc for pupils at Remera catholic Primary School. The classroom was fitted with computers and internet provided by MTN.
"This important initiative of the MTN Group is aimed at positioning MTN as a good corporate citizen, ensuring that staff members are able to participate in their respective community initiatives without adversely impacting the company’s day-to-day business operations,” Khumalo said.
