Nov. 11Rwanda vs NamibiaAMAVUBI Stars team starts preparations today ahead of the Fifa friendly match against Namibia on November 11 and Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Kampala, Uganda later this month.Head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojovic told Times Sport that the main aim is to help him select a strong team which will put on a good show in both campaigns."Training starts officially on Monday (today) at Amahoro stadium,” Micho said yesterday. After a rather ordinary display in last month’s international friendly against Namibia, Amavubi’s goal-scoring woes were again demonstrated in a game which ended in a goalless draw. Micho needs to find a solution to his misfiring front line in time for the return leg against Namibia and the forthcoming Cecafa Challenge Cup.The Serbian coach has been keeping a close eye on several players in the Primus National Football League. In Windhoek, Micho watched on lividly as his strikers failed to convert their chances. "We created a couple of chances but could not convert them into scores. At this level, you need to convert your chances or else you will be punished,” he said. The former SC Villa coach is expected to stick with the team which played the first leg in Windhoek and the only professional players likely to boost his team are Tanzanian based duo of Mbuyu Twite and Haruna Niyonzima, who ply their trade with Yanga Africans FC.Amavubi is using the international friendly to stay competitive ahead of the Cecafa Challenge tournament in Kampala, on November 24 as well as the next 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier - against Mali on March 22.Meanwhile, the draw for this year’s Cecafa Tusker Senior Challenge Cup has been shifted to November 12 in Kampala.Apart from 11 Cecafa countries who have confirmed participation in the tournament, Cameroon, Malawi and Zimbabwe have expressed interest in participating as guests.
