KIGALI - President Kagame Sunday arrived back in Kigali after a four-nation Asia tour comprising official visits to Singapore, Vietnam and South Korea and a working visit to Japan where he participated in the TICAD IV summit held in Yokohama.

Highlights of the visit included official talks with the Heads of State of the countries visited - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore, President Nguyen Minh Triet of Vietnam, Prime Minister Yasuo Fukada of Japan, and President Lee Myung-bak of South Korea.

While in South Korea, Kagame held official talks with President Lee at the Cheongwadae (Blue House) in Seoul. The Heads of State reiterated the friendship and excellent bilateral relations between both countries and agreed to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the areas of capacity building and economic development.

Lee commended Kagame for leading Rwanda’s achievements particularly in establishing stability and advancing economic growth and said that Korea would assist Rwanda in the country’s efforts to develop a knowledge-based economy.

The President said that Rwanda was investing in its people as the most valuable national resource and, pointing to a visit earlier to the Human Resources Development Service of Korea, was keen to work closely with Korea in order to learn from the country’s remarkable success in transforming its skill base in a single generation.

Kagame expressed his appreciation for the assistance already extended through Korean experts working in Rwanda.

President Kagame was on Saturday hosted to a prayer breakfast by the Reverend Billy Kim and attended by prominent leaders of the Seoul Christian community.
