Rwanda last week joined the rest of the world to mark World Post Day with a call to embrace new technologies. The day is marked with the aim of creating awareness of the role of the sector and contribution to the social and economic development. In his message, the Director General of the National Post Office, Celestin Kayitare, emphasised the role of postal services in an era of new information and communication technology."Technologies, mobile telephones and the internet are strong drivers of economic growth, but posts must continue evolving, develop efficient and accessible services and adopt common standards and exploit new technologies to diversify and improve their services” The chairman National Post Office, Board Directors, Joseph Kabera echoed Kayitare’s call, saying the Post Office needs to adapt to changes to stay relevant. "Our strategy should incorporate International Communication Technology in whatever we do, and we shouldn’t consider the new information technologies as a threat, but as an opportunity,” he said."We intend to take advantage of the opportunities to show our relevance”.
