The High Commissioner of Rwanda accredited to Mauritius, Vincent Karega, last Friday, presented his credentials to the Mauritian President Rajkeswur Purryag.Karega has his residence in Pretoria, South Africa.During the meeting, President Purryag, congratulated Rwanda for the rapid progress made after 1994 Genocide of Tutsi. He suggested that Rwanda absorbs the "redundant medical doctors of Mauritius” as the former continues to build its own skills."He said Mauritius and Rwanda have so many things in common such as being small but determined for excellence,” a statement received by The New Times says.Karega commended the Republic of Mauritius for significant progress in inclusive governance and investment promotion despite limited natural resources. The envoy also expressed his appreciation to the various exchanges and expertise that Rwanda gained out of cooperation with Mauritius Government and private entities.Some of the expertise the Indian Ocean island has extended to Rwanda includes the development of the commercial courts, which were initially headed by Mauritian judges until Rwandans gained the requisite skills.   Later, Karega paid a courtesy call on different senior officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, according to a statement from the embassy.The High commissioner called on Mauritius officials to look into new frameworks of cooperation by taking advantage of the bold process of reconciliation, reconstruction and institutional reforms for competitiveness in Rwanda.Mauritian officials acknowledged the need to embark on a new journey of cooperation, investment and trade in a win-win set up. Areas such as ICT, agribusiness, tourism, air transport, education and health were identified as areas of quick wins.Mauritius has an outstanding experience and assets in tourism, aviation, ICT, skills development, investment promotion, excess in qualified medical doctors, sugar production, customer care from which Rwanda can learn.
