The Police Commissioner for operations, ACP Bruce Munyambo, has called on residents of Jali in Gasabo District to have a collective responsibility in insuring security, especially fighting drug abuse and insuring road traffic safety. He was addressing the public after the monthly community exercise (Umuganda) in Nyamitanga Cell yesterday.ACP Munyambo said drug abuse is rife in different parts of Kigali City, the reason residents of Jali must take strong measures to fight it. "We recently found an illicit brew known as Kanyanga in Gasogi...you have to prevent it from being sold in Jali, he advised.He also called for a strengthened police-residents partnership in road safety especially in reducing the risks of motorcycle accidents."Some motorcyclists do not possess helmets, insurance or smart covers and they carry three passengers…before taking a motorcycle, you need to check all of these for your safety,” Munyambo advised.During Umuganda Police officers and Kigali City officials joined residents of Jali where they dug terraces to contain soil erosion on Jali Hill. The Mayor of Kigali City Fidele Ndayisaba called upon the Jali residents to do everything possible to fight soil erosion, instead of spending money tackling the consequences of erosion."Serious consequences of erosion may push us to take strong measures and increase anti-erosion activities,” he noted.
