Rwanda head coach Carlos Alos Ferrer admits he has no alternative but to beat the Mambas of Mozambique on Sunday, June 18 in order to put the country&039;s quest for a second AFCON qualification on track.
The Spanish tactician labeled the Group L encounter against Mozambique in Huye as crucial as his men need to go all out for the three maximum points.
"This game is going to be different from the other games. We take decisions in every game and this won't be like the games we have played previously,” Ferrer told journalists before Tuesday’s training session at Kigali Pelé Stsdium.
"I don't have any doubt about this game. It is crucial for us and we must only go for a win. I can assure everyone that we are going to win."
"I am very happy with my group, there are some young talented players and they are combining well with those I already have. I think this team has a great future."
Amavubi will be without captain Meddie Kagere who was snubbed following his recent dip in form at his club Singida Stars.
Explaining why he dropped the experienced star, Ferrer explained that he only selects his team based on their performance but pointed out that the door is always open to every player who keeps performing well.
"For the past six or seven games Meddie Kagere has played for the national team, he is the captain but this is a team where we look at others too. Any player who is in shape and consistent will be called."
With the absence of Meddie Kagere, Ferrer hinted that either Thierry Manzi, Djihad Bizimana or Abdul Rwatubyaye will captain the team on Sunday against Mozambique.
On his part, Bizimana stressed that they have their destiny in their own hands and the ultimate aim is the three points.
"The plan is to win the game. it's the only choice we have. We know how important the three points are to us because they would bring up us back in the race for a ticket [for AFCON finals]."
"So we need Rwandans to be our twelfth player on Sunday. We don't want a draw, we just want win, just come and support us." He added
A win for Rwanda on Sunday could bring the team back in contention for one of the tickets from the Group with Senegal set to complete a double over Benin.
