Rwanda’s R&B star Knowless Butera recently released a single titled Ca Va, which borrows heavily from zouk, a popular dance music style of the French West Indies with a blend of African drumming styles. Though the song hasn’t yet enjoyed as much success as the singer’s earlier songs such as Wari Urihe or Sinzakwibagirwa, Ca Va is slowly becoming an anthem in most Kigali nightclubs. In this mid-tempo love ballad, Knowless sings affectionately about her newfound love. Check out some of the lyrics: Don’t be afraid of anything/Am all yours to wine and dine (with)/I made up my mind/It’s you I love and I want you to be free with me the way am free with you/Tell me am the only one in your life… Surely, Knowless sings with heartfelt compassion. However, even though Ca Va is quite catchy, the singer doesn’t bring anything new to the party; this is just another Knowless song! Well, her existing fans could love the song, but what remains to be seen is whether Ca Va wins her new followers.
