National athletes Robert Kajuga and Jean Pierre Mvuyekure will feature in the fourth edition of Rock City Half Marathon due in Mwanza, Tanzania, on October 28.The Rwanda Athletics federation secretary general Johnson Rukundo told Times Sport yesterday, "We are expecting both Kajuga and Mvuyekure to participate but they are still sourcing for finances to enable them take part in the event” Unlike last year, participating athletes are expected to foot their own bills.Both Kajuga and Mvuyekure competed at this year’s Olympic Games in London. On their debuts, Mvuyekure managed a 79th place finish in the men’s full marathon, while Kajuga made an impressive Olympics debut, finishing 14th in the 10000m finals.Athletes from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Australia, India, Canada and United States are expected to take part.The event has been officially sanctioned by the Athletics Tanzania (AT).Inaugurated in 2009, the event aims to promote domestic tourism.The marathon starts and finishes at the CCM Kirumba Stadium, passing through a specially designed route within Mwanza City.Proceeds will be channelled to support people with disability residing in Mwanza.
