AS FAR Rabat have declined Rwanda’s request to release Emmanuel Imanishimwe and join the rest of the group ahead of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mozambique at Huye Stadium on Sunday, June 18.
FAR Rabat are on top of the Botola League table with just a single point separating them with second-placed Wydad Atheltic Club.
They have two crucial league games against Olympique Khouribga on Tuesday, June 13 before playing their last league game against MAS Fes on Saturday, June 17, and they must win to be crowned champions.
The Moroccan giants insist they can’t risk letting Imanishimwe to go for international duty as they believe he can be integral in their title push during the club’s remaining games.
Commenting on the defender’s situation, Amavubi head coach Carlos Alos Ferrer said that his absence would be a big blow to Rwanda’s quest to their AFCON qualification hopes and pointed out that his side needs him the same way FAR Rabat needs him.
"Imanishimwe is a good player and we need our best players for the game with Mozambique. Of course it is a FIFA sanctioned match day," Ferrer stated during an interview.
"FAR Rabat are also fighting for the league title and they have two very important games as well. We will see what happens."
Imanishimwe has been arguably the best left-back in the Botola League this season and has been instrumental to the fortunes of FAR Rabat.
