Living a meaningful life

Life is like how the earth moves around the sun, day and night, but how often do we sit down to analyze the meaning of a life that matters. Ready or not, some day this will all come to an end. There will be no more sun, moon, minutes, hours or days. All things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten will remain behind. Your wealth, fame and other worldly possessions will shrivel to irrelevance. It will not matter what you owned or who owed you what. Your grudges, resentment, frustration, sadness or fear will finally disappear.Just like those negative things, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and everything great you had planned or actually were able to do will expire. The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away. It won’t matter where you came from. It won’t matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant or had gentle skin and an amazing complexion.

What matters is not what you bought, but what you built. It’s not what you got, but what you gave. What matters is not your success, but your significance to others. What matters is not what you learned, but what you taught. What matters is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others. What matters is not your competence, but your character. What matters is not how many people you knew but how many will feel that devastating blow when you’re gone. Your memories do not matter, however, the memories that live on in those who loved you. What matters is your impact on the ones you leave behind. This kind of life is by choice and we should all make it a priority. It’s not too late to put your pride, selfishness, grudges, resentment, frustration, and other negative emotions aside and start an honest life. Try to make choices that are not only best for you, but also the people around you.
