MTN Rwanda slashes Blackberry subscription charges by 40pct

Blackberry users are set to enjoy cheaper charges after MTN Rwanda announced a reduction of 40 per cent on all blackberry packages.The monthly subscription fee of blackberry internet services (blackberry absolute)  was reduced Rwf12,000 from Rwf20,000 while weekly fees were slashed from Rwf6,000 to Rwf4,000.The firm also announced a reduction in blackberry enterprise service fee from Rwf20,000 to Rwf12,000 per month. Blackberry internet service (blackberry absolute) plus blackberry enterprise service were reduced from Rwf25,000 per month to  Rwf15,000 and from Rwf7,000 to Rwf5,000per week. The operator said a statement that; "We attributed this reduction to our continued support of Rwanda government’s policies to create and promote mainstream technology in Vision 2020, which policies by purpose, rank among the most ambitious in Africa.”MTN Rwanda, which was recently fined by telecom sector regulator, Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA), for poor service is the country’s largest telecom operator by market share. With 3.2 million subscribers, it controls 62 per cent of the market.
