There is a saying that a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle. True to this saying, local hip hop star Riderman has taken it upon himself to help Rwanda’s underground musicians in their pursuit of musical stardom. Riderman is giving upcoming artistes free studio time at his Ibisumizi recording studio, which is located in Nyamirambo. Apart from that, Riderman is also giving them an opportunity to share the stage with him at a series of concerts countrywide. This, according to the rapper, will help cultivate a following for them. One of the major factors currently limiting new entrants in the industry, Riderman says, is lack of sponsors. "There are many talented singers in Rwanda but in most cases they are just exploited by greedy people who don’t even give them a chance to develop their talents,” he says, adding that this is the very reason he chose to support upcoming musicians. Riderman notes that although he too needs promotion, there is also need to promote others. Currently, there are eight musicians benefiting from Riderman’s initiative, including Queen Sha, Amag The Black, M-Izzle and Social.
