Editor,I was really delighted to read your article in yesterday’s issues of The New Times, titled "Rwanda elected to UN Security Council”. Congratulations, Rwanda you have done it yet again!Being unopposed in her bid for the Africa seat, Rwanda went on to win 148 votes out of the 193- member UN General Assembly. This reflects the confidence reposed in the Government of Rwanda, with her hardworking and resilient people, by the community of nations. It is commendable, that this great nation with a population of less than 12 million people (ranked 73rd in terms of size of the country’s population) is the sixth largest contributor to peace keeping operations worldwide. This reflects the firm resolve of the Government towards securing international peace and good will.Rwanda last served on the UN Security Council in 1993-94 and was very much in the world news then, because of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. It is said that history repeats itself. And, yes, it is my firm belief, that the history of Rwanda being at centre stage, in the world news will definitely repeat itself in 2013-14, when she again serves in the Security Council. While it will never again be for any reason similar to what happened during those dark days, the New Rwanda will emerge as a model country, which will see many millions smiling not just in this land of a thousand hills, but across the entire world!Long live Rwanda!
