Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Rwanda has generated Rwf1 billion in deposits through the ‘Biba na KCB’ Promotion, which aims at boosting the savings culture. Launched on July 25, 2012, the promotion encourages a client to deposit a minimum of Rwf100,000 with the bank in order to stand a chance of winning prizes including cars, refrigerators, LG flat television screens and micro-waves among others. It has attracted over 600 clients.The Bank’s Head Retail Banking, Jean Bosco Iyacu said that; "…in the process…a culture of saving is also given fertile ground to flourish and grow. The clients benefit from their own savings and the bank attracts new customers.” "Biba” is a Kinyarwanda word which means ‘to sow’. The promotion is set to boost the bank’s operations.The Bank reported a net profit of Rwf475 million profits last year following two years of operating in losses due to high start up costs.Customer deposits accelerated to Rwf47 billion from Rwf32 billion in the period under review, the bank’s management said early this year. The promotion is organised by KCB in partnership with other companies such as Tiger Auto (car dealers), Great Wall motors, Better World and Satguru Travels.
