THE Ministry of Education has availed Rwf2m for the organisation of this year’s schools’ cricket tournament. The Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) secretary general Emmanuel Byiringiro told Times Sport that the tournament that got underway a week ago acts as a talent detection championship for national junior and senior teams."This tournament is good because it helps to identify potential players in schools. The tournament will last for three weeks and we believe it will leave a huge impact as far as the development of the game in the country is concerned.”Six teams, split into two groups, have taken part in the tournament going on at Kicukiro oval. Kagarama secondary school, Apred Ndera and Remera Giporoso are placed in Group A, while IPRC Kicukiro, Lycée de Kigali and Efotec Kanombe are in Group B.In Group A, Kagarama secondaryschool emerged victors on the first day of the tournament with a victory over rivals Apred Ndera. Kagarama SS won the game by 59 runs after scoring 102/4 to Apred Ndera’s 43 all out.Bosco Tuyizere was the man of the match after making 31 runs and scoring two wickets. Kagarama SS also beat Remera Giporoso by 57 runs with 114/4 on Remera Giporoso’s 57 all out. Bryson Bugingo was voted man of the match after making 56 runs and scoring three wickets.Remera Giporoso beat Apred Ndera in another group game by 23 runs after making 93 all out as the former managed 70 all out. Orkide Tuyisenge, from Remera Giporoso, was voted man of the match after making 26 runs and scoring one wicket.In Group B, IPRC Kigali (Kicukiro) beat Lycée de Kigali by 7 wickets after making 90/3 all out on Lycée de Kigali’s 87 all out.Efotec Kanombe beat IPRC Kigali by 51 runs making 100 all out with the latter making 49 all out. Museveni was man of the match after scoring 34 runs and two wickets.However the third match was washed away by heavy rains and both LDK and Efotec Kanombe had to share points.Action continues this weekend with semi final matches. IPRC Kigali will face Kagarama SS before Remera Giporoso play Efotec Kanombe in the second semi final.
