Rwanda’s mobile phone users have hit 5,155,697 million. Telecom sector regulator, Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA) said yesterday. The figures account for subscription recorded up to end of September.The regulator’s data indicate that the country’s total mobile subscribers increased from 5,090,028 the previous month. With the market of only three operators, RURA targets to have 6 million phone users by the end of this year."MTN Rwanda, added 41,333 phone users to hit 3,229,672 million subscribers, while TIGO Rwanda added 8,746 subscribers to its family registering 1,741,603 million,” RURA data indicate. The new entrant, Bharti Airtel, recorded an increase of 15,590 users reaching 184,422 mobile phone activations.Rwanda’s mobile cellular penetration rate also increased to 48.1 percent in September up from 47.5 percent the previous month. Rwanda still has the lowest mobile penetration rates in the region after Burundi.
