RAYON Sport are set to appoint French Didier Gomes da Rosa as their head coach as the club aspires to win their first league title since 2004,Times Sport has learnt.Club secretary general Olivier Gakwaya said yesterday, "The executive committee held a meeting on Monday and Gomes was picked as the right choice as the head coach.”"He (Gomes) is expected to arrive in the country on Wednesday (today) to finalise talks over his contract details,” he confirmed, ending months of speculation.According to Gakwaya, the six-time league champions are proposing a one-year renewable contract for the Frenchman but everything will depend on how the talks will go between the two parties.However, if talks go well, Gomes will not take charge immediately; instead he will use the first two league matches after signing to assess the environment while his assistant coach Ali Bizimungu continues to be in charge.The 41-year old was previously linked to Amavubi Stars but Serbian Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojovic was appointed in 2011. He was also linked to Mukura last season.He has previously managed different lower division clubs in France including US Cagnes sur Mer, Etoile de Fos Sur mer, AS Roquebrune Cap Martin, FC Antibes and a Technical Supervision Training Course Brittany Football as Technical Director.Gomes has beaten off three other coaches who had been shortlisted for the Blues’ coaching role namely; former coach Raoul Shungu, Uganda’s Sam Timbe and Burundian Cedric Kaze.The club which has had a poor start to the season has been fighting hard to find a replacement for Jean Marie Ntagwabira, who resigned at the end of last season.After three consecutive defeats; Amagaju (1-2), AS Kigali (1-3) and La Jeunesse (0-1), Rayon secured their first victory (1-0) of the season a fortnight ago against Marines. The win also moved Rayon, from the foot of the 14-team table to 12th and it was also the first win for the Blues since relocating to their original home in Nyanza last month after 26 years based in Kigali.Kiyovu tops the table with 12 points after a run of four wins on the trot. Police, APR and Musanze have eight points each.
