Rwandan musicians over the weekend staged two concerts in different locations to contribute to Agaciro Development Fund (AgDF). The first concert was held at the Gikondo Expo Grounds on Saturday, while the other was at Kigali Serena Hotel on Sunday.
Rwandan musicians over the weekend staged two concerts in different locations to contribute to Agaciro Development Fund (AgDF). The first concert was held at the Gikondo Expo Grounds on Saturday, while the other was at Kigali Serena Hotel on Sunday.In Gikondo, entry fee was Rwf2000-in the ordinary seats, and Rwf5000-VIP sections. While the entrance fee at Serena was Rwf10,000 each. Proceeds from both concerts will be given to the Ministry of Finance as custodian of the funds.Dubbed "Youth Artistes Agaciro Concert”, the concerts were organised by the Kigali City Youth Forum in collaboration with the city authorities. It attracted over 40 musicians."As musicians, we also thought it wise to use our talents towards the success and development of our country through AgDF,” said Miss Jojo, one of the female artistes who performed at Kigali Serena Hotel.Other artistes who performed include Kizito Mihigo, Mani Martin, Aline Gahongaire, Bruce Melody and Samputu. Cultural troupes, including Inganzo Ngari and Indangamirwa also took part.The Brothers, Urban Boys, Knowles, Paccy, Uncle Austin, Tom Close, Jay Polly, Kamichi and Dream Boys performed on Saturday.At Serena, the concert kicked off at 8 p.m, with upcoming singers such as Bruce Melody, acting as curtain raisers. All artistes delivered their best and didn’t disappoint. However, among others, Mani Martin’s performance was outstanding.He sang a number of songs from his latest album, "My Destiny”-including "Bila wewe” and Icyo dupfana kiruticyo dupfa.” In his speech, Kigali City Mayor Fidele Ndayisaba commended artistes for the great initiative, saying it demonstrates the youth’s involvement in building their country. "We must work together as Rwandans to overcome our challenges; and it is possible because we know what exactly the solutions to what we face,” Ndayisaba said.In an interview, the organisers told The New Times that in addition to the gate collection of the two concerts, musicians will also make individual contributions to raise more funds.Speaking at the concert, the Finance and Economic Planning Permanent Secretary Pichette Kampeta Sayinzoga said the AgDF initiative was timely. She added that based on the rate at which Rwandans have taken up the initiative, the future is bright.The concert ended at 1a.m.
