Editor,I read with keen interest your Editorial published in The Sunday Times of October, 14, titled ‘Responsible parenting is the foundation of a strong nation.’The Vice President of the Senate, Jean D’Arc Gakuba, has very rightly called on parents to balance work and parenting responsibilities. It is a fact, that with urbanisation, work pressures and with economic necessities, parents tend to spend more time away from their children.However, as has been rightly explained in your editorial, it is of vital importance to strike a good balance between family and work. This is a challenge not only in Rwanda but something we face continuously even in India.I know the Government of Rwanda is always alert to such challenges and I do believe that with the various initiatives being undertaken towards inculcating the right values in people, the future of this great nation will be based on a solid foundation of responsible parenting, which will keep many millions smiling!Clarence Fernandes
