In an effort to meet performance contract targets, Kigali City on Friday, began its second annual schools performance analysis programme. The exercise that started with St Andrew Nyamirambo Secondary School covers every aspect of education ranging from administration, student-teacher relations, academic performance, hygiene, suitability of premises and location, extra curricula activities and available resources. "This is an annual activity where leaders team up with (education) specialists and peers who are teachers from other schools for learning purposes,” explained the city Vice Mayor in charge of social affairs, Hope Tumukunde who led the inspection team. "We are here to facilitate improvement. It also serves as a source to plan and budget for identified needs,” she added.Other members on the team are deputy mayors in charge of social affairs from each of the three districts that comprise Kigali City. These are Gasabo, Nyarugenge and Kicukiro districts. The team was upbeat about the facilities and care accorded to students at St Andrew Nyamirambo. They however could not release findings until the end of the evaluation exercise, saying some areas needed to be improved especially the school’s kitchen drainage facility.  Tumukunde said that as the exercise was still at its initial stages, no disciplinary action would be taken against any poor performer but instead stated that any action would revolve around advice and empowerment. She noted that the exercise would also target nursery schools this year.Run by the Catholic Church, St Andrew Nyamirambo is a mixed day and boarding secondary school that offers sciences. The Director of the School, Father Lambert Dusingizimana, revealed that the high hygiene standards at his school had resulted from upholding of values of cleanliness among students and hard work by support staff.
