Rwandair Express, a national carrier may not have its own aircraft soon. Management has decided to lease a new Boeing 737. The emergency move is to help the airlines’ passengers plying the Johannesburg-Nairobi- Bujumbura and Entebbe routes.

"Buying an aircraft is a very complicated process. It might take a year. Thus we have decided to lease an aircraft for a period of one year as we negotiate to buy a new one,” Rwandair’s Executive Chairman, Gerald Zirimwabagabo yesterday said in an interview.

The aircraft is expected in three weeks. The leasing deal comes after the Boeing 737-200 from Malawi got technical problems and was returned.

The airline also cancelled a codeshare agreement with Kenya Airways, a business decision that inconvenienced several Rwandair passengers.
