Rwanda will face Botswana in the opening game of the 2023 Kwibuka T20 tournament which kicks off Saturday, June 10 at 9.45AM at Gahanga Cricket Stadium.
The tournament, which is in its ninth edition, is part of sporting activities organised every year to commemorate the 29th anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi.
Aside host nation Rwanda, other countries who have confirmed their participation for the tournament are Kenya, Uganda, Botswana, and Nigeria.
Marie Diane Bimenyimana, Henriette Ishimwe and Geovanis Uwase at among top players that coach Leonard Nhamburo hopes to count on in an attempt to lift the glittering trophy for the first time time since the tournament’s inception in 2014.
Prior to the tournament, Bimenyimana told journalists, in a pre-tournament press conference, that,"We won’t underestimate anyone. We are going to take every game as it comes and we hope to win the tournament..”
Tanzania won the last edition of the tournament ahead of runners-up Kenya but the country won’t be able to defend the title after announcing their sudden withdrawal.
