Editor,Joseph Rwagatare’s piece titled, ‘Africa independence: Myth and Reality’ (The New Times, October 9), is absolutely correct on every point! And finally, someone has the courage to say that China is a threat to Africa! It is a proven fact that in every area, the Chinese have come into the wildlife is being poached at an alarming rate. And mineral resources such as gold and diamonds are high on their list as well. I would say watch them closely. It’s true that the colonialists used the "divide and conquer” method to control vast areas of Africa and it is still happening today. There is a saying that "the more things change, the more they stay the same” and unfortunately that is a fact in Africa. As soon as a country shows that they can manage their own affairs (such as Rwanda) the super powers, media, and humanitarian organisations try to bring them to their knees just like they did in colonial times. They may not be as barbaric as in the past but the results are the same... foreigners win and Africans lose! Stand your ground Rwanda and be the shining example for the rest of Africa!Marie Collins, Canada
