POLICE Handball Club won this year’s Carré d’As tournament after beating APR Handball Club 38-24 in the final match played on Sunday.The annual competition brings together the top four teams in national Handball league. This year’s event had Police, National University of Rwanda (NUR), Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) and APR.In the semi-finals APR thrashed Kigali Institute of Education 31-15, while Police beat National University of Rwanda 24-15.Police also won year national league title after collecting maximum 42 points from 14 matches and APR finished second with 36 points.The league comprised eight teams including; Police, National University of Rwanda, Kigali Institute of Education (KIE), APR, Ecole Secondaire de Kigoma (ESKI), Groupe Scolaire de Rambura, Groupe de la Sale, Groupe St Joseph de Nyamasheke.Meanwhile, in a move aimed at popularising the sport in the country, Rwanda handball federation vice chairman in charge of competitions Antoine Ntabanganyimana said that they are planning to organize another tournament next month dubbed ‘Beach Handball’.He said, "The league ended well and Carré d’As has also finished smoothly, now we are working on plans for another competition (Beach handball), which will be open to all teams.”
