After guiding APR to a faultless start in this year’s national volleyball league, Jean-Luc Ndayikengurukiye’s coaching skills are in for a tougher test as APR contends for regional glory in this year’s East and Central Africa Volleyball competitions.
The ex-APR and national team captain is having his first go on the international stage and will be hoping for a good start.
APR, who are one of 25 teams competing in the four-day event that rolled off yesterday at Nairobi’s Kasarani Sports Complex flew to Nairobi on Wednesday aboard Rwanda’s national courier ‘Rwandair Express’.
The other teams at the event have come from Tanzania, Burundi, Uganda, DR. Congo, Ethiopia and the host country. Like Rwanda, Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) are Uganda’s only representatives after a last minute withdrawal of Nkumba University and KCC volleyball teams. It is said that KCC are gearing up for next month’s tournoi international des disparus in Kigali.
APR’s major challengers at the event include General Service Unit, KCB and Prisons all from Kenya.
"We received word of one of the organizing officials that they (APR) arrived safely and we know that they will give the tournament their best shot,” Gertrude Kubwimana, the executive secretary of the national volleyball federation yesterday said.
