Today, a 2011movie titled, ‘Kinyarwanda’ will be screened at Ishyo Theatre at Kacyiru, from 6:30p.m. The entrance is free, thanks to Goethe-Institut. The 99-minute, award-winning film has an original Kinyarwanda version with English subtitles. It tells a story of humanness: During the 1994 Rwanda Genocide against the Tutsi, the Mufti of Rwanda issued a fatwa; forbidding Muslims from participating in the killing of the Tutsi. As the country became a slaughter-house, mosques became places of refuge where Muslims and Christians, Hutus and Tutsi came together to protect each other places. The story interweaves six different tales that all together form one grand narrative, a real depiction yet presented of life and human resilience in the face of the Genocide. We follow the young lovers, the child, the couple, the soldiers, the Imam, and the priest as they are swept by the chaos around them. "Kinyarwanda" was produced by Darren Dean and Tommy Oliver; the executive producer was Ishmael Ntihabose. Cassandra Freeman, Edouard Bamporiki and Cleophas Kabasiita are the stars.
