Police head coach Goran Kopunovic believes his team is starting to get into their stride as his new-look side provided fresh evidence they will be in contention for the national football league title at the end of the season.Police, who have never won silverware, beat Mukura 1-0 on Saturday courtesy of Peter Kagabo’s strike and moved into fourth position in the national football league table standing. It seemed a perfect response following the setback of draws in their opening two fixtures, and Goran’s side is starting to show signs of moving on following the pre-season departure of their lead strikers Meddie Kagere to Tunisia’s Esperance de Zarsis, and Laudit Mavugo, who moved to AS Kigali."My job is to always have a strong team that plays good football. I don’t want to talk about the title now because it is still too early,” Serbian tactician told Times Sport. He added, "I have a young team but I hope they will understand my philosophy as well as that of the club and hopefully results will come along the way.” "Police is a big club which is able to contend for the league title but I don’t want to promise the league title now,” added Kopunovic, whose side finished second, behind APR last season and also reached the MTN Peace Cup final.Police jointly stand on eight points with APR and Musanze after four rounds of matches. Meanwhile, high flying SC Kiyovu stretched their lead at the top of the table to four points after their 2-1 win over La Jeunesse on Saturday thanks to excellent strikes from Olave Gahonzire and Pekeyake Tuyisenge. It was the fourth consecutive league win of the season for Jean Baptist Kayiranga’s side, the club’s best ever start to a league campaign.Six-time league champion Rayon Sport secured their first victory of the season following a 1-0 victory over Marines in Rubavu. Fuadi Ndayisenga scored the winner to help his side jump to 12th position with three points.Elsewhere, Espoir lost 0-1 to visitors AS Muhanga in Rusizi, while Amagaju beat Etincelles 2-0 in Nyamagabe.Meanwhile, the league will go into recess to pave way for Amavubi’s friendly match against Namibia which will be played at the weekend in Windhoek. The league will resume on October 20 with the fifth round.
