RWAMAGANA – The Prime Minister Dr. Pierre Damien Habumremyi, yesterday urged nurses to observe professional ethics.The PM said this while addressing hundreds of people, who gathered at Rwamagana School of Nursing and Midwifery to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary.The ceremony was also attended by officials from the Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Health. The PM told the audience that nurses who observe ethics promote education in the country."I am pleased that your school products offer good health services…but some nurses elsewhere don’t live to their expectations. So, take the courage across the country,” he said.The school Principle, Sister Epiphanie Mukabaranga, requested the government to improve the school’s infrastructure, adding that it would allow it to accommodate more students.She also requested for upgrading the school, so as to offer degrees in nursing. The school currently offers only a Diploma in Nursing (A1).Reacting to the demands from school authorities to go to the level of offering degrees in nursing, the PM said that the decision will be taken by the unified University of Rwanda that is in the pipeline. "By September next year, we shall have one university…these other institutions will be affiliated to it. So, issues to do with offering diplomas will be handled at that level. As for the infrastructure development, the government’s support is assured”.The PM also advised nurses to join International Nursing Association. "Everything is being harmonized…join the association so that you serve the world. The job you are doing is a noble one. You need to love your country to serve patients better…remuneration will certainly increase,” he explained.Rwamagana School of Nursing and Midwifery opened in 1962.
