GICUMBI — The Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Dr Charles Murigande, has advised residents of Gicumbi district to work hard to overcome poverty.
Minister Murigande urged local leaders to live by example by engaging in income generating activities.
He made the remarks last week while visiting the district. During his working tour the minister participated in the construction of terraces at Nyagatoma high yield agricultural demonstration site commonly referred to as "Indatwa" hill located in Nkoto Cell in Rutare and Rwamiko Sectors.
He further inspected fish farming ponds and livestock farms in Rutare Sector, belonging to two residents, Egide Gakuba and Jean Damascene Turatsinze. He hailed the farmers for their exemplary effort in practicing modern agriculture and livestock farming.
"Hard work is the solution to poverty eradication and attainment of Rwanda’s economic revolution goals," said Murigande.
He was accompanied by the Mayor of Gicumbi, Bonane Nyangezi, RDF 408 Brigade commander, Brig. Gen. Eric Murokore and other officials.
On his part Mayor Nyangezi advised Rutare residents to adopt terrace construction at the "Indatwa" hill demonstration site and apply them in their localities to attain high agricultural yields.
He further called upon the residents to engage in the rearing of Rabbits, poultry and pigs, saying they generate quick income.
Gen. Murokore called upon Rutare residents to desist from genocide ideology and be vigilant on security.
During the same visit, Murigande inspected modern agricultural activities such as Irish potato gardens, banana and wheat plantations in Rwamiko Sector.
