Gasigwa eyes Zambia, Malawi tourneys

AFTER bagging the Kigali ITF/CAT Circuit title, the country’s top seed Jean Claude Gasigwa is shifting his focus to Zambia Open due on October 19 to 20 in Lusaka.Gasigwa told Times Sport yesterday that he is busy training and making travel arrangements to enable him compete in Malawi and Zambia Open."Malawi Open coming up on the weekend of October 13, then after I will head to Lusaka for the Zambia Open,”"I am making plans of securing travel visas for the two nations as I also find time to intensify my preparations.”"I want to use these two tournaments to fully prepare for next month’s ITF Men’s Futures (in Kigali),” added Gasigwa.Gasigwa is aiming at improving on last year’s performances when all Rwandan players failed to reach the second round following disappointing exits in the first round of the 2011 ITF Men’s Futures.The Nyarutarama-tennis club based top seed won his second successive ITF/CAT Prize money circuit a week ago after a spirited comeback, beating compatriot Dieudonne Habiyambere 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.Zambia Open Championship has been hailed as a milestone for Zambian tennis by the local tennis association after a 20-year absence.Top seeds Edgar Kazembe and Nkumbu Chonya are expected to lead the Zambian players who will jostle for honours during the two-day event.The championship is expected to attract players from fifteen countries.
