HUYE–A senior police officer in the Southern Province has cautioned drug dealers and consumers that they will be brought to book if they do not stop their criminal activities.Chief Superintendent of Police Elias Mwesigye, the Commander for the Southern Region, said this in an interview, moments before a 24-year old woman was arrested for trading in marijuana."Given our resolve, with the support of leaders from all levels and residents, we are determined to end the trade and consumption of drugs,” he said.The suspect (names withheld) is a married woman who has two young children aged four and six years.The woman, a resident of Mukura Sector, Huye District, was arrested on Tuesday at her home with hundreds of pellets of cannabis. By press time, she was detained at Ngoma Police Station.Speaking from police, the suspect acknowledged her role but said it was her first time. She said that she was selling the drugs on behalf of a family member whom police said is on the run although, efforts to apprehend him are underway."I knew the trade was illegal, but I do not know what pushed me to do it,” she said as tears dropped from her eyes.
