Amavubi Stars captain Olivier Karekezi has urged Rwandans to rally behind their team ahead of the 2010 World Cup/Nations Cup qualifier against Mauritania on Saturday.

Speaking to Times Sport on arrival at Kigali international airport on Tuesday night, Karekezi said, "We call on everybody to come and back the team.”

"Though we shall be doing our work on the pitch on Saturday, your (fans) support would be paramount in ensuring that we put them (Mauritania) under so much pressure,” Karekezi noted.

The 27-year-old further added that nothing that will stop Amavubi from securing maximum points from ‘a must-win game’ against Mauritania.

"With us (professionals) joining the already good home based players, I hope we can do all we can to qualify for the African Nations Cup finals,” said Karekezi before he appealed to fans to turn up in big numbers to support the team.

The influential skipper’s comments were echoed by fellow professional, Bobo Bola and Fritz Nkusi.

"The Mauritania fixture is a must-win game and I’m sure if we win, it will give us extra confidence for the entire campaign to the 2010 Africa Nations’ Cup finals. We are here to give our best for the team,” Swedish based striker Bobo Bola noted.

Of recent, fans had withdrawn their support to the national team due to poor performances. Other countries in Rwanda’s group eight include; Morocco and Ethiopia.
