The newly appointed Minister of Defence, Juvénal Marizamunda, officially assumed his responsibilities right after a handover ceremony that took place at RDF Headquarters, on Wednesday, June 7.
Marizamunda assumed office a few hours after a swearing-in ceremony presided over by President Paul Kagame.
Marizamunda replaces Maj. Gen Albert Murasira, who served in the position since 2018.

The handover took place in the presence of the RDF Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, several RDF Generals and Senior Officers as well as officials of the Ministry. The newly appointed RDF Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lt Gen Mubarakh Muganga, was also sworn in along with Marizamunda.
Muganga replaces Gen Jean-Bosco Kazura, who had served in the same capacity since November 2019.

Also sworn in is Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, the new Army Chief of Staff, replacing Muganga.
Another is Brig Gen Evariste Murenzi, who became the Commissioner General of Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS).
Earlier, on June 6, Kazura handed over office to Muganga while Muganga also handed over office to Nyakarundi at RDF headquarters.
