Saturday ushered in an evening of fun, fashion and elegance as it gave us a special treat this time. It all happened at Kigali Serena Hotel at an event dubbed ‘The September Affair’. A sparkling event it was; full of elegance which the audience and participants displayed as men were fully clad in suits, while women were  smartly dressed in classy party and dinner outfits; a reality of fashion to suit the event. The event, with an inaugural theme is ‘Kigali Uncorked’, started out just on time as planned; first with a moment as the guests gathered in the Ballroom each with a glass in hand to sip from amidst free networking. This was followed by a session, where guests were led to the auditorium where the mood was just right; the lighting, decoration, setting backed up with smooth jazz which filled the air. Here, all participants had a moment of tasting four-courses of mouth-watering dishes prepared by a world class South African chef each accompanied by a glass of wine from the Mont Rochelle vineyards in Cape Town, South Africa.Amidst these tasty dishes, with remarks from Keza Bunyenyezi – the evening’s emcee – we all sailed through the smooth jazz which was played live by a band led by Namfundo Xaluva, a renowned South African Jazz Vocalist, making the event remarkable. The event attracted guests from various countries, including Gabon, South Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Burundi, Uganda and Rwanda. Remarks by Claire Akamanzi, CEO, Rwanda Development Board, were followed by a dance to a live performance of the jazz band. ‘The September Affair’ will be an annual event highlighting different exquisite cultural experiences. This year’s event brought South African dishes and wines to Rwanda. The year’s event was sponsored by Ecobank, Legacy Lounge, Serena Hotels, Inyange Industries, Rwanda Development Bank, Events Africa, Illume Creative Studio, RwandAir, Tigo, Hotel Des Mille Collines, Nyungwe Lounge, Kivu Watt Project and Rwanda Development Board. The proceeds from the dinner will be channeled to Solid Africa, a Rwandan youth charity organisation.
