Remain vigilant against Malaria
Editor, I appeal to the general public not to be reluctant in the fight against Malaria. This newspaper yesterday reported that the first ever vaccine against Malaria might be available in three years time (‘Malaria vaccine to be available by 2015’).

Editor,I appeal to the general public not to be reluctant in the fight against Malaria. This newspaper yesterday reported that the first ever vaccine against Malaria might be available in three years time (‘Malaria vaccine to be available by 2015’).That sounds good news. However, we must remain vigilant and continue to prevent ourselves and infants from Malaria, because it remains the world’s leading killer disease.Recent gains against Malaria could easily be rolled back if we don’t continue to observe practices that helped reduce infections, such as sleeping under treated mosquito nets, and clearing bushes and stagnant water near our homes.Any vaccine will be a bonus but, in the meantime, let’s remain vigilant.Joshua KamaliRemera
