Matong (Bot)RWANDA’s Dieudonné Habiyambere and Uganda’s David Oringa meet in today’s quarter final clash of the ITF/CAT Money Circuit after winning in contrasting styles yesterday at Umubano Hotel Courts.Habiyambere, last year’s semi finalist who is among the tournament’s favourite winners, eked out a 4-6 6-2 6-3 victory over Emmanuel Rukundo. Rukundo won the first set and denied him early victory with his left hand which swung the ball left and right causing much difficulty for Habiyambere. Habiyambere’s first set performance bordered on the farcical at times, carelessly frittering away free set points to surrender the initiative before pulling off an escape act. He returned back into the game to win the remaining two sets.Uganda’s teenage sensation Oringa squeaked past Rwanda’s Anatole Bizimana 6-3 6-4 to reach the quarter final.Today, Habiyambere faces Oringa in an exciting quarter final at 10am. After ousting Jean Claude Gasigwa in the semi final and suffering a defeat to Zambian Edgar Kazembe in the Tanzania Open final in Dar-es-Salaam a week ago, Oringa is a stronger contender for the title.Habiyambere said yesterday, "It took me a lot of energy to beat Rukundo; I am now going to rest so I can be in good mental strength ready to face Oringa tomorrow (today),”"He is a good opponent but I hope I will play some good tennis and enjoy it,” added Habiyambere.In other matches, Botswana’s Phenyo Matong takes on Olivier Nkunda after whipping Eric Uwamahoro 6-4 6-2. Nkunda beat Lukumani Rwandekwe 6-3, 6-1 in the other second round contest.Gasigwa plays Burundian Issa Cuma in another quarter final. Gasigwa saw off Melee Bizimana 6-1, 6-0, while Cuma eased past Damacien Munyaneza after a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory.In another match, Mathieu Uwizeyimana, who ejected out Eugene Karangwa meets Olivier Havugimana who also had a tougher time subduing Burundian qualifier 6-3, 7-6 in the second round.In the women’s category, Kenyan Caroline Odour marched into the quarter final following a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Bolivia’s Fernada Quiroga. Odour meets Olive Tuyisenge, who had a walk over against Console Muregwa.Kenya’s Everlyn Otula had a very easy game against Cynthia Mukantwali, booking a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Otula faces Megan Ingabire who beat Oda Akanyange 6-0, 6-0.Gisele Umumararungu eased into the quarters with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Chantal Mutuyimana. Umumararungu meets Tanzania’s Rehema Athumani, who also got a walk over against Rwanda’s Joseline Umulisa.Hungary’s Dora Kopunovic beat Tanzania’s Vailet Peter 7-6, 6-2 to set up a quarter final clash against seed three Shufaa Changawa who dismissed Rwanda’s Ciza Fridaus 6-4m 6-2 in straight sets.
