Students mark World Peace Day

Students from various schools on Friday convened in Nyamata Sector, Bugesera district, in the Eastern Province, to celebrate the World Peace Day.

Students from various schools on Friday convened in Nyamata Sector, Bugesera district, in the Eastern Province, to celebrate the World Peace Day. Celebrated on September 21, this year’s theme was "Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future”.World Vision-Rwanda organised the celebrations, marked through competitions in music, dance and drama. They were divided into four groups.During the competition, students staged various performances with the message of encouraging unity, togetherness and working hard as a step forward to development.Groupe Scolaire Mulico from Nyamagabe district emerged the winner, walking away with a cash prize of Rwf 60,000."We are members of the peace group at our school and I believe that wining this competition is because we normally go through various training sessions  aimed at encouraging students to become peace builders at our school,” said Jean Claude Ntigurirwa.The senior two student said coming up with peace groups will help in promoting peace at schools and in communities.The Guest of Honor, the Mayor of Bugesera district, Louis Rwagaju, commended the initiative saying it will encourage the young generation to realise they are also responsible for contributing towards a peaceful country.
