Gatsibo–Rwikiniro Trading Centre in Rwimbogo Sector, one of the busiest trading centers in Gatsibo District, was availed with a modern multimillion public market yesterday.The Market which sells cheap and quality food crops attracts traders from Kigali and all over the country twice a week.The Executive Secretary of the secto,r Fred K. Murara, in an interview with The Sunday Times, said that the sector sunk in Rwf 377 million to complete the new market. "This is the busiest market in the district...its proximity to the Kigali–Kagitumba highway, makes it ideal for traders and buyers. Residents needed the modern market which is why they are very happy,” he said."It is a modern market that we want to use to improve the income of the sector and its people. We intend to privatize most of its components to ensure its proper management,” he said. The district’s Mayor, Ambrose Ruboneza, noted that the market was expected to boost the district’s economy in many ways. He said the district’s long term objective was to maximize revenues, and that the new market would help them achieve their objectives. "We shall mainly privatize the VIP section which is actually more of a shopping arcade…The other part can be managed by the sector,” he said. With the completion of construction works, traders are eagerly waiting for its opening. Patrick Gatimbazi, a trader reflected that noted that they used to sell food items in a very poor environment. "We couldn’t go on the way it was...when it rained, the market stunk and was a health hazard. During the dry season we endured the scotching sun and dust contaminated food. So we are happy now”.The market that was constructed by BEAH and SEICO Company, has among others, a modern abattoir.
